T.C.Başbakanlık Denizcilik Müsteşarlığı'ndan alınan İlgi yazıda, PBOS Sekreteryasından alınanı EAPC(PBOS-PWG)N(2001)15 simgeli dökümanda, NATO Gemicilik Merkezinin faaliyete geçirildiği ve 28º Doğu boylamı ile Mısır'ın Port Said limanı arasında kalan bölgeden veya Süveyş Kanalı'ndan transit geçecek olan ticaret gemilerinin gönüllülük esasına göre Gemicilik Merkezi Tarafından belirlenen Gemi Bilgi Kartı formatına uygun olarak rapor vermeleri talep edilmektedir. Mevcut kriz süresince Doğu Akdeniz'de konuşlandırılacak NATO deniz güçlerinin NATO ve Ortaklık ülkelerine ait ticaret gemilerini anılan bölgede kontrol edeceği belirtilmektedir.
Türk Bayraklı ticaret gemilerinin bu bölgeden kolayca geçiş yapabilmeleri için gemi kaptanlarının Gemi Bilgi Kartı formatına uygun rapor vermelerinin uygun olacağı değerlendirilmektedir.

INFORMATION REQUIRED BY THE NATO SHIPPING CENTRE
1. Shipping companies and merchant ships are requested to report to the NATO Shipping Centre details of shipping intending to transit the Suez Canal or which have completed the North bound transit between 28 East and Port Said. The data is to be reported using the format on page A-2. The preferred method of communication is by e-mail or alternatively by fax or telephone.
2. In order to give adequate time for the data to be complied and sent to the warships, the information is required 24 hours in advance Provision of this information will assist in the compilation of an accurate shipping plot for the surveillance and monitoring of shipping by NATO naval forces in the region. It is also reduce VHF traffic between merchant ships and warships.
3. The NATO Shipping Centre will be manned from 0700 to 1900 GMT daily. Its address is:

4. A website is being established at the Shipping Centre which will promulgate information for the merchant marine. Details of this website will be forwarded once contact has been established with shipping authorities who are encouraged to liaise with the Centre.
